Dake Doesn't Take Sides in Teutal Family Feud

Paul Teutal Jr., formerly of Orange County Chopper and lately of Paul Jr. Designs, has returned to the custom-motorcycle business to do battle with his father. He was fired by his father in an acrimonious split, and neither has talked to the other in over a year. Junior waited out a non-compete clause and now his Paul Jr. Designs can fabricate custom motorcycles. The father is pitted against son in a family biker build-off competition this season on the TLC channel program "American Chopper."

Both sides of the family have turned to Dake Corporation (Grand Haven, MI), a JSJ Business, for equipment. Orange County Choppers has been using Dake metalworking equipment from the beginning. The Dake vertical band saw, circular cold saw, hydraulic press and arbor press are used regularly and can be seen in most episodes. ?When Senior needed a vertical band saw for his home garage last year, he gave us a call and ended up getting one from a distributor. They?ve been using their other pieces of our equipment for almost 10 years without any problems. We really appreciate our relationship with "American Chopper" and the Teutal family. It?s been a perfect partnership for two great brands?, said marketing director Frank Kennedy.

?When we decided to start building bikes again, you were on the top of our list,? Paul Jr. told Dake representatives, who helped him equip his new shop with an arbor press, hydraulic press, cold saw, vertical band saw, and power hammer. ?This (cold saw) was the first piece of equipment we had hooked up?, said Paul, Jr. during a recent visit by sales manager Scott Van Dyke and Dennis Rice, Michigan territory manager.

In upcoming weeks Paul Jr. will build a new business from the ground up and compete with his father?s established Orange County Choppers brand. It is a classic competition between the old and the new generation. ?It makes for compelling viewing. We just hope they can eventually resolve their differences. In the meantime, we are neutral in this family feud and we are just glad to see them both using our equipment,? said Kennedy.
