ELECTRODES IMPROVE WELDING PRODUCTIVITY IN HIGH SERVICE TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS
Tri-Mark Metalloy B2-S and Metalloy B3-S low alloy submerged arc metal-cored electrodes from Hobart Brothers provide weld deposits that withstand elevated service temperatures and improve productivity compared to welding with solid electrodes.
Hobart Brothers’ (Troy, OH) Tri-Mark Metalloy B2-S and Metalloy B3-S low alloy submerged arc electrodes both provide weld deposits that withstand elevated service temperatures and improve productivity compared to welding with solid electrodes. Both products also meet American Welding Society (AWS) A5.23 specifications for Low Alloy Steel Electrodes and Fluxes for Submerged Arc Welding and use Hobart HN-511 flux, a high basic agglomerated flux that produces excellent mechanical properties and easy-to-remove slag.
Compared to equivalent solid electrode classifications, the Metalloy B2-S and B3-S electrodes provide higher deposition rates and better penetration profiles, both features that improve productivity and weld quality. They also bridge moderate gaps more readily than solid electrodes, helping to minimize weld defects like undercut or lack of fusion.
The Metalloy B2-S submerged arc electrode deposits weld metal with 1−1÷4 percent chrome and ½ percent molybdenum and can be used for high service temperature applications, including heat exchangers, boiler and power piping, and valves. The welds created by Metalloy B2-S electrodes maintain good tensile strength in the as-welded or post-weld heat treated (PWHT) condition and offer reliable corrosion resistance.
The Metalloy B3-S electrodes provide a weld deposit with 2–1/4-percent chrome and 1-percent molybdenum, while also creating weld deposits that maintain high strength and provide good oxidation resistance at service temperatures up to 800 deg F (425 C). These electrodes work well on applications in the power generation industry. Hobart Brothers offers Metalloy B2-S and Metalloy B3-S submerged arc electrodes in diameters of 3/32 in, 1/8 in and 5/32 in on 60 lb coils. Additional drum packaging is available upon request.
