The two machines operate on one shared rail system to create a cutting envelope that is 10 ft wide x 65 ft long.

Founded in 1949, Penn Stainless Products, Inc. (PSP; Quakertown, PA) has grown into a full line global supplier, processor and distributor of custom specified flat rolled stainless steel sheet, plate, bar, structural, pipe and tubular stainless steel products.

With over $140 million a year in revenue, PSP is an established mid-sized player in the stainless industry that competes from its 200,000 sq ft facility by serving domestic and international customers with stainless, high-temperature, corrosion-resistant, Duplex and PH alloys.

In addition to leveling services, PSP offers extensive plate and sheet cutting services that include shearing, laser, high-definition plasma and dynamic waterjet, as well as plate machining and bar saw-cutting.

The factory recently installed two new Versagraph Millennium Series Plasma Cutting Systems (Model 3100) from Koike Aronson, Inc./Ransome (Arcade, NY), a supplier of advanced customized cutting machines, welding positioning equipment and portable cutting/welding machines that can be made to accept work pieces of nearly any size, and gas apparatus.

Each new plasma cutting system features Hypertherm HPR800XD HyPerformance® Plasma technology that enables powerful precision cutting for superior quality and consistency on material up to 6.25 in thick stainless steel plate.

The two machines operate on one shared rail system that creates a cutting envelope that is 10 ft wide x 65 ft long.

The Versagraph Millennium Series cutting sysytem provides unmatched speed, accuracy, versatility and durability in a plasma cutting system. Production benefits include optimum cut quality, less dross (cleaner cut edges), less kerf loss (narrow cut), and a smaller heat-affected zone (due to faster cut speeds).

The system also yields a significantly reduced bevel angle on the cut edge (1 deg to 3 deg bevel angle, compared to 7 deg to 10 deg with a standard plasma system).

According to Jim Seward, the president of Penn Stainless, “This investment greatly enhances our plate processing capabilities, particularly on heavier gauges of stainless steel. The new Koike Aronson system, combined with our recently added abrasive waterjet and laser systems, offers our customers many cutting options for precision processing and quick turnaround. www.koike.comwww.pennstainless.com.
