Precision Water Jet Pumps

Water jet systems manufacturer Jet Edge, Inc. (St. Michael, MN), recently released a new brochure highlighting its precision water jet pumps. Featuring 90 ksi X-Stream and 60 ksi Dominator Series hydraulic intensifier pumps and Eco-Jet direct drive pumps, the brochure provides an overview of ultra-high pressure pump technology for precision water jet cutting, as well as a side-by-side comparison of the two pump styles.

Hydraulic Intensifier Pumps
The Dominator and X-Stream Series hydraulic intensifier pumps are available in a wide range of sizes from 30 hp to 200 hp and are capable of producing pressures from 60,000 psi to 90,000 psi and flow rates of 0.6 gpm to 4 gpm for water jet cutting and surface preparation applications. The pumps feature a reliable tie-rod design that eliminates threads on the high-pressure cylinders, end caps, and hydraulic cylinders, reducing the likelihood of cracking, and increasing component life. Matched-metal components prevent galling of hydraulic components. Jet Edge intensifier pumps also feature patented Metal-on-Metal seal technology the cuts in half the number of seals needing to be replaced, reducing downtime for seal changes.

Hydraulic accumulators are standard on all Jet Edge waterjet intensifier pumps. This provides smoother hydraulic pressure, reduces spikes and prolongs hydraulic pump life. Hydraulic fluid is cooled and filtered, and a rugged hydraulic center section incorporates high-duty cycle-rated piston seal and wear rings. These hydraulic systems have a 4,000-hour warranty. The water jet pumps also feature CE-marked attenuators which smooth pressure fluctuations and deliver a constant and steady stream of ultra-high pressure water to the cutting tool, ensuring optimal cut quality.

Eco-Jet™ Direct Drive Pumps
Energy efficient and economical, the Eco-Jet direct drive positive displacement water jet pump produces 55,000 psi (3,800 bar) ultra-high pressure water for precision waterjet cutting and surface preparation applications, and supports a .015 in (.38 mm) orifice. Eco-Jet pumps feature independent attenuators which smooth pressure fluctuations, increasing cutting speeds and extending component life.

The Eco-Jet is available in three configurations, standard, PTO and TACH. The standard Eco-JET features a 30 hp (22 kW) electric motor which uses up to 50 percent less electricity than a 50 hp hydraulic intensifier pump, but produces the same output. The Eco-Jet PTO utilizes a tractor PTO shaft to drive the plunger pump rather than an electric motor.

The Eco-Jet PTO is available for 540 rpm and 1,000 rpm PTO shafts and Category 1 and 2 three point hitches (tractor sold separately). The Eco-Jet TACH uses a tractor or skid steer’s hydraulic circuit to drive the plunger pump rather than an electric motor. It is available for hydraulic circuit units capable of producing a minimum of 50 hp. Maximum pressure is dependent on the tractor’s hydraulic fluid flow and pressure. Unlike traditional industrial waterjet pumps, the Eco-Jet PTO and Eco-Jet TACH require only a standard 120 V 60 Hz power source and fresh water source, making them practical for rural machine shops and shops with a limited power supply.
