In late 2014, to celebrate the launch of its new website, KBC Tools and Machinery, Inc. (Sterling Heights, MI) began a North America-wide contest that was sure to challenge the masculine pride of its metalworking tool clients. And how could it not, being a testosterone-fueled battle all about size? Clients were asked to send in photos of their most precious equipment in order to determine once and for all whose was biggest. Fast forward to May 2015, and the triumphant winners have been announced.

That’s right, the three clients with the largest, best equipped toolboxes (with second and third place decided by the toolbox’s organization and creativity, respectively) have been determined and they will now bask in the glory of their Kash winnings and pride of place. They are:

In Third Place
Winning the $250 Kash prize for Most Unique and/or Creative Toolbox: Clint Griffith, the owner of Camp Rock Fabrication and Mechanical, LLC (Lucerne, CA). He worked for 12 years as a mechanical maintenance technician in the mining industry and now specializes in off-road and industrial metal fabrication, as well as mechanical services such as rebuilding machinery.

When Clint made the decision to venture out onto his own he realized he had a major tool storing problem. So, using stuff he had laying around and after a little time on the CNC plasma table, he put his tool box on wheels and created a truck box with latches so that the drawers don’t open when it’s moved around. He also mounted a vice in a 2 in receiver hitch which is interchangeable with other tools in his shop.

In Second Place
Winning the $500 Kash prize for Best Organized/Neatest Toolbox: Aubrey Wood, an aeronautical machinist in Tulsa, OK, who rebuilds older Rolls Royce jet engines, is the lucky winner of our second place prize of $500 for having the most organized toolbox. He is sometimes teased about how meticulous he is regarding his tools. Well, poor Aubrey ain’t so poor anymore! He takes home a cool $500 to spend at KBC on anything he wants (most likely more KBC tools, of course!).

And . . . in First Place
Winning the Kash prize of $1,000 for the Biggest Toolbox: Greg Crouch, who has 30 years of experience as a field mechanic at a construction equipment dealership in Merrillville, IN, and it shows. He boasts several sets of boxes including the largest stack being two sets of 36 in wide boxes, plus multiple side boxes. He also has two sets of 33 in wide boxes and side cabs, plus an additional 26 in stack. Was there ever a sight to bring more pride, excitement, and sheer joy to a metalworker than a collection of tools such as his? Congratulations on a truly exceptional selection of tooling!

At KBC Tools and Machinery, we’ve been helping North American metalworkers expand the size of their tool collection since 1965. Though the Biggest Toolbox contest is over and done, one thing remains true: our own toolbox is still bigger than yours, and we’d like that to change! After all, there’s only one way to make it grow: buy more tools!
