The Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI; Rolling Meadows, IL) awarded their Congressional Leadership Award to Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia). The award was presented by MSCI vice president of finance and government affairs Jonathan Kalkwarf at Huntington Steel and Supply Company (Huntington, WV), a family-owned and operated steel service center with 83 employees and operations in Huntington, Morgantown, WV, and Pikeville, KY.

“We are proud to give this award to Senator Manchin for his work on behalf of the metals industry in the 113th Congress,” said Kalkwarf. “In particular, he is a leader on energy issues and understands an all-of-the-above energy policy is necessary to keep U.S. manufacturers competitive globally. We are grateful for his votes to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline and to oppose costly Environmental Protection Agency emissions rules.”

MSCI established its Congressional Leadership Award in 2005 to recognize elected representatives who demonstrate a commitment to the health and well-being of its members, the industrial metals supply chain, and its members’ manufacturing customers.

“I am honored to receive this award,” replied Senator Manchin. “I stand beside MSCI in its efforts to oppose the EPA’s regulatory overreach, which will not only cost many hard-working West Virginians their jobs, but will also reduce the reliability of the nation’s power grid and substantially increase costs for American job creators in all industries.”

“In a city where too many lawmakers never deviate from the party line, he is one of the few we can count on to put American consumers and job creators above partisan politics,” concluded Kalkwarf. “We appreciate his courage and commitment to strengthening our industry and the U.S. economy.”
