AIMS Metrology (Miamisburg, OH), an OEM for coordinate measuring machines, has acquired CMI Technology, Inc. (Englewood, OH). The purchase, which has been finalized, is one of several investments the company has made this year to better serve its customers. Headquartered in Miamisburg, AIMS completed a second expansion in April 2016 by building out assembly areas and climate-controlled laboratories. In July they were awarded a $100,000 grant to develop new vision and image recognition technology for their CMMs. The addition of this CMI facility will allow them to control quality and delivery time frames for the components they manufacture for their LM and HB Series CMMs.

“We’ve been looking for the right tool and die shop for a couple of years,” said Dave Delph, the president of AIMS. “We found out that CMI was for sale and their people, expertise and equipment sold us on them. Aside from quality improvements, we’ll be able to gain greater efficiencies in operational costs. Bringing this work in-house also means we can deliver our products when we say we will.”

In addition to the CMMs they design and build, AIMS will use their expanded capabilities to develop and produce air and electronic gages. “If a customer needs greater throughput or higher accuracy than a CMM can deliver, these gages will provide that,” notes Delph. The new gages will be engineered to compliment their CMMs and function as part of a work cell in a variety of applications.
