The compact UNE6 gundrilling machine from UNISIG (Menomonee Falls, WI) is well-suited for medical components, such as bone screws and surgical instruments, that require the precision drilling of small diameter deep holes into high strength titanium or surgical-grade stainless steel. A counter-rotating UNISIGworkpiece headstock designed for small parts greatly enhances concentricity, and hole diameters with the UNE6 can be drilled as small as .039 in (1 mm) with diameter-to-depth ratios beyond 100 to 1. The UNE6 is engineered and manufactured in the U.S. with high performance components. It features a cast iron headstock and chip box components, cartridge spindles with premium quality bearings, and a high precision preloaded ball screw feed. This machine meets job shop needs for flexibility through a modular design and is available in a variety of configurations with up to four spindles, a single drilling module, dual spindle-spindle modules, and as single or dual module machines.

The compact construction of the UNE6 allows for quick installation. To ensure immediate production upon installation, users are provided with training for machine operation, process optimization and gundrill tool sharpening in the UNISIG training room and lab. The company also provides reference information and practical advice necessary for proper operation.
