Rough turning a big Inconel forging. Scot Forge dramatically improved the rough turning of this superalloy by retooling with Ingersoll Hex-Turn inserts. Insert consumption dropped from 69 inserts to one – on a single part – and cycle time was reduced by 15 hours.(Click on photo to enlarge it)

ROUGH TURNING OF DIFFICULT SUPERALLOY

Instead of a knee-jerk reaction to lighten the cut and increase the passes to ‘take a load off the insert’ when facing an insert rupture when running Inconel, Scot Forge went to a stronger Hex-Turn insert with a gentle lead angle from Ingersoll Cutting Tools to make fewer, deeper passes.
