Kennametal, Inc. upgraded its line of KC9225? inserts, which are part of the Kenna Perfect? turning system. The coating construction helps increase turning speeds by twenty to forty percent. In addition, it reduces chip hammering and built-up edge conditions, which helps extend tool life and prevent insert damage in applications demanding continuous to lightly interrupted cuts at high cutting speeds.

"The optimal combination of toughness and deformation resistance combined with sharper cutting edges should make KC9225 inserts the first choice for machining austenitic stainless steels, when machining at speeds in excess of 550 sfm," says Kent Mizgalski, Manager of Global Lathe Systems Engineering. The new inserts and the Kenna Perfect? turning system are recommended for applications in the medical and food industries, flange manufacturing, the chemical industry, and oil and petrochemical businesses, or any business requiring improved cutting performance in stainless steel.
