Advanced Machine Guarding and Power Isolation

Trapped key interlocks for power isolation from Tapeswitch are configured for machine guarding and lock-out on hinged and sliding doors, gates and fences.

The AIE is a double key, stainless steel, access interlock with power safe electrical switch for isolation or switching of low current.

From simple to complex machine guarding applications, Tapeswitch Corporation (Farmingdale, NY) offers a full product line of trapped key interlocks for power isolation and for machine guarding lock-out that are configured with components to fit your exact application, machinery power type (run-down), access point structures – doors, hatches, gates, control panel lock-out, power isolation requirements.

Trapped Key Interlocks are a machine guarding solution for the control of hazardous energy, eliminating the need for a procedural lockout tag out system and are approved for such use in the US under the ANSI standard Z244.1 – Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout and Alternative Methods).

The AIE is a double key, stainless steel, access interlock suitable for machine guarding on hinged and sliding doors, gates and fences. The KS power safe electrical switch is a key driven electrical switch suitable for the isolation or switching of low (20, 32, 63 or 150A) current. The key exchange units, such as X, Y, Z are for multiple access point machine guarding.

Complex Machine Guarding Solutions
The trapped key interlock product line is extensive, providing solutions for both power interlocking and control circuit interlocking, machinery with different power sources, even pneumatic and hydraulic, machinery with fixed or variable run-down times, different environments, full access control (meaning a person can’t be locked in access areas if gate is shut because the machine’s key is needed to start the interlocking process), and robotic machine guarding (where access must be restricted to the end of a cycle products).

Machine Guarding System Components
The product line is well engineered and offers the competitive advantage of integrating unique key code configurations, heavy weight mechanical components, durable stainless steel keys and other safety guard accessories, such as key caps for extra protection from particulates, which can deter the mechanisms of the lock in normal conditions in most trapped key product lines.

For over 55 years, Tapeswitch has manufactured/offered solutions in general purpose signaling switches for the commercial/industrial for sectors, presence sensing/sensing/contact detection switch products for industrial/commercial sectors, machine safety-rated guarding products for OEM equipment manufacturers/machine builders/and user sectors, and custom manufacturing in product division for a simple signaling to a complex machine guarding application.

Complete solutions include:

  •  Switches: ribbon switches, touch pads, sensing cells, foot/hand switches, small area switches for commercial/industrial sectors.
  •  Presence Detection/Sensing/Contact Detection: switches/mats/edges/bumpers for commercial and industrial sectors.
  •  Machine Safety-Rated Guarding: switches, mats, edges, bumpers, light curtains, laser scanners, programmable and modular safety controllers, non-contact safety switches (monitoring), and trapped key interlocks (power isolation/lock-out) for machine safety/ guarding OEM, machine builder, and user sectors.
  •  Custom OEM Manufacturing Solutions: Regional Applications Managers provide/configure custom switches/mats/edges/bumpers/light curtains/laser scanners/non-contact switches/trapped key solutions for OEM/machine builder/user sectors to application and product specification requirements from a simple application in general signaling to a complex machine guarding application in packaging, plastics, metalworking, material handling, robotics, paper, waste, processing, chemicals in industrial manufacturing sectors.
