Drills, mills, lathes, grinders, saws and other 120V machinery can abruptly shut down during operation due to a power interruption. When an unintentional shut down takes place, it is critically important that a machine does not automatically restart, catching the operator by surprise and leading to a serious accident. Sensing-Saf-Start® motor controls from Rockford Systems, LLC (Rockford, IL) help shops achieve higher levels of safety by preventing accidental machine start-ups after a voltage drop or power interruption. In the event of a power interruption, the Sensing-Saf-Start automatically disconnects power to the machine so that when it is restored, the machine will not start up even if the power switch is in the “ON” position. It is only after the reset button has been pressed by the machine operator on the Sensing-Saf-Start that the machine can be restarted and normal operation resumed.

Extremely simple to install, the Sensing-Saf-Start instantly upgrades older machines to the latest safety standards, sparing the user the expense of purchasing a new machine. It is also ideal for replacing old, frayed or ungrounded power cords. This control is for use with equipment driven by small motors operating on 120V AC, and that are connected to a power source by means of 14 ga, 3-wire flexible cord. It can be purchased as a package (SAFS-200) that includes a 120V AC Sensing-Saf-Start with a 20 in cord for the machine end and an 8 ft cord with molded plug on the power end, plus an E-stop in a NEMA-4 polycarbonate enclosure. Or it can be bought individually (SAFS-100) without the E-Stop. The Sensing-Saf-Start complies with OSHA requirements, the Canadian Electrical Code, and NFPA 79 and ANSI B11 series electrical standards.
