Managing the Digital Twin of Complex Assemblies in Real-Time

Using a Windows desktop, any HTML5 browser and even in virtual reality, the 3DViewStation graphic engine from KISTERS can provide a PLM system, ERP, product configurator or after-sales application with a real-time Digital Twin of fully detailed trucks, industrial HVAC systems or other complex assemblies with hundreds of thousands of parts.

High-level APIs in the 3DViewStation graphic engine from KISTERS are used with a PLM, ERP, product configurator, or service and spare part application to quickly and easily configure complete and fully detailed complex assemblies consisting of more than 100,000 parts, and render them realistically with little effort and only a few lines of code needed from developers to get the system up and running.

Managing the vast amount of variants and configurations of complex assemblies that consist of hundreds of thousands of parts requires the appropriate graphics with the capability to construct and visualize the Digital Twin, a virtual model of those many variations and configurations. This Digital Twin will also change over its lifetime, meaning the ability to visualize such complex assemblies dynamically as they respond in real-time to configuration changes is a mandatory function. One tool to handle this demanding task might be a PLM system, but it is more likely to be a product configurator or even an after-sales application. Now, 3DViewStation from KISTERS North America, Inc. (Roseville, CA) provides the necessary functionality to complete all of these tasks in a Windows desktop, any HTML5 browser and even in virtual reality.

Unlike simple designs, complex technical products have more variants and configuration possibilities. PLM systems, product configurators and after-sales applications use sets of rules and constraints to accommodate the various options. Some of these programs are equipped with graphics engines, but others are not. Due to its incredible speed, 3DViewStation is used as the graphic engine in many of these programs. “We can proudly announce that 3DViewStation has been selected by several automotive and industrial vendors as the graphics engine for their product configurators,” said Kelly Baumann, the business development manager for KISTERS North America. “Every day our customers configure complete and fully detailed trucks or industrial HVAC systems, each consisting of more than 100,000 parts, and render them realistically. They enjoy how fast they are able to see their configurations with all of their changes. Developers are pleasantly surprised when they learn how little effort it takes to do the integrations that are required. Thanks to the high-level APIs in 3DViewStation, there are only a few lines of code needed to get the system up and running.”

Known for its modern user interface, high performance viewing, advanced analysis and integration capabilities into leading systems, 3DViewStation ships with current and mature importers for a broad range of 3D and 2D formats, including CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor, JT, 3D-PDF, STEP, DWG, DXF, DWF, MS Office and many more. According to Baumann, 3DViewStation is continuously enhanced in response to customer needs and requirements. It is available in Desktop, ActiveX, VR-Edition and HTML5 WebViewer product-versions. All product flavors are intended to be used together with a PLM, ERP or other management system product configuration or service and spare part applications, providing all necessary APIs. For cloud, portal and web systems, an HTML5-based WebViewer solution is available that does not require client installation. All file formats can be used in combination with intelligent navigation and hyperlinking features to address the needs of complex integration scenarios.
