Shops seeking to drive innovation and competitive advantage with 3D printing technology at an economical price point should take a look at the WorkCenter 500, the latest large format 3D printer from 3D Platform™ (3DP; Roscoe, IL). “Many companies that need an extra-large format machine cannot afford to spend $750K or more. Therefore, we set out to design a purpose-built machine for extra-large format additive manufacturing that wouldn’t break the bank,” said Jonathan Schroeder, the president of 3DP. Starting at under $200K, the WorkCenter 500 provides users with an extra-large format and affordability without sacrificing quality or throughput. The printer uses a fused filament fabrication (FFF) system and offers an extra-large build volume of 1,400 mm x 2,800 mm x 700 mm. It is currently the only machine on the market within the large format category to provide the option of integrating pellet or filament extruder(s) – or both.
These high-volume extruders offer a choice of throughput rates ranging from 1.3 kg/hr to more than 6.8 kg/hr, which means users can utilize a wide variety of open market software and materials, including filament and pellet. The results are open market solutions that can deliver up to a 90 percent savings vs. closed eco-system machines.
