Rugged Cobot Offers 20-Kilogram Payload for a Wide Variety of Tasks

The industry’s first IP67-rated collaborative robot, Yaskawa Motoman’s HC20XP is particularly well-suited for use in damp and splash-prone environments such as food processing. Two speeds optimize cycle time based on risk assessment and process requirements.

Made of cast aluminum for durability, Yaskawa Motoman’s IP67-rated HC20XP cobot complies with ISO 13849-1, ISO 10218-1, and ISO TS 15066 safety standards for machinery, robots, and collaborative robots (respectively). It reaches 80-inch pallets without an elevator or lift mechanism.

With its 44-pound (20-kilogram) payload and 5.6-foot (1,700-mm) reach, the HC20XP collaborative robot from Yaskawa America Inc.’s Motoman Robotics Division (Dayton, OH) is suitable for a wide range of material-handling, machine-tending or assembly tasks. It’s also the industry’s first IP67-rated collaborative robot, featuring an easy-to-clean surface and NSF H1 food-grade grease that facilitates continuous use in damp or splash-prone environments – such as food processing – where wipe or wash is required and there’s the possibility of food contact.

Featuring hand-guided teaching for fast implementation of a robot system, the HC20XP offers four modes of collaborative operation, including power and force limiting (PFL), where dual-channel torque sensors in all joints constantly monitor force to quickly react to contact with a worker. The unit can operate without additional protective measurement (risk assessment-dependent), reducing cost and space requirements. A pinchless design and through-arm utilities that hide cabling further increase workplace safety by reducing the risk of snagging or interference with other equipment.

The cobot shifts easily between collaborative speed in PFL mode or full speed in industrial mode to optimize cycle time based on risk assessment and process requirements.

Yaskawa’s ultracompact but powerful YRC1000micro controller can be installed vertically, horizontally, or mounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Its small footprint and lightweight cabinet are ideal for factories with high-density layouts that demand seamless integration and stacking of controllers. The robot is also compatible with Motoman’s standard YRC1000 controller.

Function-specific tooling and accessories are available from various Yaskawa partners. A through-arm Category 6 cable enables a wide variety of communication options for tooling.
