The Hoffmann Group (Knoxville, TN) adds the Steel Deep to the Garant Master line of drills introduced in 2015. In internal tests, the deep hole drill achieved up to 30% higher metal removal rate, up to 70% higher process reliability, and three times longer tool life in stainless steel and cast iron than competing products.

Straight main cutting edges reduce cutting forces, improved point geometry optimizes chip breaking, and a special design for cooling and drill guidance accelerates chip evacuation and improves process reliability at higher cutting speeds. Through-cooling is only helical in the head area to enable an unequal helical pitch of the chip flutes on the remaining drill body with an adaptive helix angle from 15 degrees to 30 degrees.

Patented drill guidance consisting of a guide land and guide rings improves hole quality by reducing vibration. The guide rings prevent overheating by forcing  coolant to flow around the drill tip. Chip flow is optimized by a head coating and polished chip flutes.

The drill’s core is made from sintered carbide substrate and an extremely wear-resistant and heat-resistant titanium aluminum nitride (TiAIN)-based multilayer coating. Due to the head coating, the tool can be reground up to four times.
