Designed for high-precision aerospace, automotive, and medical applications, Saint-Gobain Abrasives (Worcester, MA) Norton Winter Aeon electroplated grinding wheels hold an extremely tight profile tolerance of ± 5µm at a 24-inch (600mm) wheel diameter and 12-inch (300mm) width weighing up to 551 pounds (250 kg). A layer of diamond or cBN particles is mechanically fixed to the core’s surface by an electrochemical process of nickel deposition to increase grit retention.
To save costs, the wheel’s core can be reused. Once the abrasive grains are worn, the core can be re-plated with new diamond or cBN grain in a continuous re-plating cycle.
