Knowledge Is Power: Weld Data Monitoring

From sequencing of parts to tracking parameters, Nick Peterson of Miller Electric explores how weld data monitoring provides manufacturers with actionable information to improve welding processes, ensure quality and productivity, and help streamline welding processes.

Meeting Energy Demands with a New Welding Process

With pipeline projects worldwide looking for ways to build longer pipelines, faster and more efficiently, some contractors are converting from the stick welding process to a self-shielded flux-cored wire process to weld on high-strength pipeline projects. Tim Hensley of Hobart Brothers examines the three main reasons for this transition.

PIVOTING MAGNETIC WELDING ANGLE

This welding tool from Industrial Magnetics gives welders the ability to quickly and easily set up and hold steel in angles ranging from 22 deg to 270 deg with an adjustable, locking handle and marked detents every 45 deg for accuracy.

2012 State of the Industry: Welding

Forecast: Look for modest increases in oil and gas, agriculture, mining, railroad, transportation, defense as total system solutions get new talent up to speed as quickly as possible, focus on shorter ROI, and are customized by industry needs.

TIPS FOR OVERLAYING JOURNALS AND CASTER ROLLS

Although the ultimate hardfacing deposit selected will vary based on the intended application, Regis Geisler of Lincoln Electric explains the welding and fabrication techniques to follow for rebuilding caster rolls, crankshafts, roll pins, extrusion rolls, crusher rolls, or other types of journals made of low alloy steel.

ROOTING OUT RESISTANCE: ELIMINATING THE HIDDEN VARIABLE

Resistance is frequently characterized by random and intermittent welding issues that are difficult to repeat. But even though resistance-related problems can have many symptoms, their root cause is always the same – not enough current is flowing in the electrical circuit. Nick Petersen of Miller Electric shares some tips on how to pinpoint and root out this frustrating problem.

FABTECH 2011: Welding (Part Two)

The Big Show exhibited the latest advancements in arc, gas, resistance and laser welding for diverse material joining applications, including sheet metal, pipes and tubes, jewelry, plastics and other exotic materials. Now our Show-in-Site brings some more of those welding systems and related equipment to you!

Mexico’s Manufacturing Continues to Grow

Manufacturing growth is increasing in 2011, with both new and existing companies expanding operations across various sectors, most notably through record-breaking numbers in auto production and vehicle exports.
