Here are several answers to medium-to-large diameter pipe welding, including a self contained, digitally controlled, mechanized pipe welding system that produces high deposition rates with excellent weld quality to reduce pipe welding costs.

In Booths N-4813 and N-5013 at FABTECH 2012, Bug-O Systems (Canonsburg, PA) offers many solutions for your medium-to-large diameter pipe welding needs. If you have a small pipe job, or hundreds of miles a cross country pipeline, our Pipe Solutions can be your partner in the field. Come to our booths where you can experience four of our Pipe Solutions in our Pipe Shed.

There you will find the multi-process Piper Plus, which is digitally integrated with the Lincoln Electric Powerwave S-350 power source and Autodrive 4R220 wire feeder to provide STT Root, GMAW-Pulse Vertical up and Vertical down, FCAW Vertical up Fill and Cap capabilities. Automatic, thru-the-arc torch height control is standard equipment on all Piper products.

The Piper Plus is a self contained, digitally controlled, mechanized pipe welding system that produces high deposition rates with excellent weld quality to reduce pipe welding costs. Increased duty cycle and arc-on time provide significant improvements in productivity. All welding parameters, including voltage, wire feed speed, current, travel and oscillation are programmable and digitally controlled with the Piper-Plus.

Manual pipe welding requires a high level of training and skill. As skilled pipe welders become more difficult to find, mechanized welding is an economical alternative. Less welder skill and physical effort are required using mechanized welding. Handheld wire welding results in a typical operating factor (or percent arc-on time) of 40 percent to 50 percent, while mechanizing the process increases the operating factor to 70 percent or higher.

The increased arc-on time reduces the number of welders and welding stations required. Also, the precise procedure control and excellent repeatability ensures consistent weld quality around each pipe joint and from one joint to the next.

Also at the show will be the Piper Bug, the Modular Drive System and the Universal Bug-O-Matic, all for FCAW.

Also at the show, Bug-O will present “Increasing Productivity & Quality of Welding Pipe through Automation” in the New Product Theater at Fabtech. This presentation will take place on Monday, November 12 from 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Bug-O will also be launching their new website with a new interactive MDS “Build-a-Bug” feature. www.bugo.com
