The Toyota racing vehicle sponsored by the waterjet manufacturer claimed a respectable finish at Martinsville Speedway despite suffering major damage during a multi-car wreck on lap 180 and cutting a tire with only 50 laps to go.

Unstoppable racing car driver Brian Vickers drove the #55 Jet Edge (St.Michael, MN) Toyota Camry to a respectable 11th place finish at Martinsville Speedway despite suffering major damage during a multi-car wreck on lap 180 and cutting a tire with only 50 laps to go.

Vickers started third and raced in the top-10 in the early going. On lap 180, he was involved in a multi-car wreck on the front stretch and suffered major damage. He made several pit stops for repairs under caution. Vickers restarted 19th on the lead lap on lap 197, and climbed back into the top-five by lap 362.

The #55 again ran into trouble when it cut a tire with 50 laps to go forcing Vickers to lose a lap. He raced his way to the Aaron’s Lucky Dog free pass with 30 laps to go and battled back to finish 11th.

“It’s always a kick to watch Brian Vickers race,” said Jet Edge president Jude Lague. “We thought the Jet Edge car was done after that wreck, but the Aaron’s pit crew worked their magic and Brian fought his way back to a respectable finish. “It was great to see Brian behind the wheel of the Jet Edge car once again.”

Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) uses a Jet Edge precision water jet cutting system to cut more than 1,000 parts for each of its racecars.

MWR builds about 56 cars per year, including the #55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry driven by Michael Waltrip, Mark Martin and Brian Vickers, the #56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry driven by Martin Truex Jr., and the #15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota Camry driven by Clint Bowyer.

This spring, MWR is installing a second the company’s water jet system in its Cornelius, NC. fabrication shop. MWR’s second waterjet system will feature Jet Edge’s latest Permalign® EDGE taper control and bevel cutting technology.
