CNA Insurance (Chicago, IL) recently presented a $15,000 donation to Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs (NBT), the educational foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, International® (FMA; Rockford, IL), in support of its summer manufacturing camps. This summer, 505 students attended one of the 34 camps held on community and technical college campuses across the country, where they learned specific manufacturing related skills to help them understand and appreciate the value of a career-based on designing, planning and constructing tangible products.
“We are a proud supporter of the work that FMA and NBT are doing to help hundreds of students get their first exposure to career opportunities in manufacturing,” said Franklin Maccotan, the director and industry leader of Manufacturing at CNA. “NBT’s mission to engage, nurture and excite individuals of all ages in the pursuit of careers within the manufacturing sector is helping to inspire the future leaders of this critical industry.”
“The generous donation from them allows us and NBT to continue hosting the annual series of manufacturing summer camps dedicated to introducing middle and high school-aged youth to practical applications of math, science and engineering principles in manufacturing,” said Ed Youdell, the president of FMA. Camps are multifaceted and offer instruction in CAD design, welding, robotics and a variety of other manufacturing technologies, as well as practical instruction in career development and ways to harness entrepreneurial initiative.
For more than 25 years, CNA has been the endorsed business insurance carrier for FMA members.
