Seco Tools Inc. introduces the grade TP1500, the newest addition to its line of coated grades produced using the Duratomic? process. The new grade is designed to be the first choice when customers are aiming for the highest productivity possible in addition to offering long and reliable tool life at higher speeds and feed rates. This grade meets the mechanical and physical demands required for turning steels at very high cutting speeds without sacrificing the toughness needed for reliability. TP1500, in conjunction with the new MR6 chipbreaker, has proven to have longer tool life, increased productivity and lower costs than competitive grades positioned to handle similar applications.

TP1500 was developed using the revolutionary Duratomic process, where the crystalline structure is manipulated at the atomic level to produce a very durable coating. This process results in the ability to produce a coating with excellent edge toughness in combination with exceptional wear-resistance. While targeted specifically for steel machining, the coating and substrate properties also make this grade a good choice for a wide range of cast iron applications, especially those involving ductile and compacted graphite iron.

TP1500 is offered in a very wide range of insert geometries to cover turning applications from finishing to heavy roughing where productivity and/or long tool life are of major importance.  The wide application range of this grade, particularly when combined with the new general purpose MR6 chip groove, is an ideal complement to grade TP2500, the first grade to feature this revolutionary Duratomic coating technology.

The company also introduces its new Duratomic? grade MP1500, designed to be the perfect choice for customers who want maximum performance in milling steel, achieving more parts machined in less time. Field tests comparing this grade to its replaced grade show a 135-200 percent increase in output and 150 percent increase in tool life. When compared to similar competitors' grades, MP1500 is less sensitive in roughing operations, able to utilize higher feed rates, and has a more wear resistant coating.

This new grade is an extremely hard and wear resistant grade for machining of harder steels including tool steels or even difficult types of cast iron. It is the ideal grade for optimizing milling application in steels under stable machining conditions. The Duratomic-covered MP1500 is the choice for customers seeking better performance, higher throughput and increased productivity when it comes to milling harder steel. It has relatively low cobalt content, which combined with the selected gain size, provides notable wear resistance and hardness (HV101500). Enhanced with the Duratomic coating technology, it reduces the heat transferred during the cutting process; therefore higher cutting data can be used. This grade is offered in a wide range of insert geometries to cover face, square shoulder, disc, high feed, and copy milling applications.
