With this acquisition, Element becomes the largest dedicated materials testing company in the U.S.

Element Material Technology (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) announces the acquisition of Sherry Laboratories (Daleville, IN), one of the largest independent materials testing businesses in the U.S.

This significant transaction will add nearly 300 specialized staff and 10 facilities to the company’s existing network of 30 laboratories, making Element the largest dedicated materials testing company in the country.

Sherry provides a broad range of testing services to the aerospace, oil and gas and power generation industries. The 66-year-old company has laboratories supporting over 6,000 clients throughout Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

The acquisition reinforces Element’s core growth objective, which is to provide an unrivalled materials testing service focused specifically on the aerospace, oil and gas, transportation and power generation sectors.

Charles Noall, the president and chief executive officer of Element Materials Technology, said, “Sherry Laboratories has a great reputation and first class testing facilities, but the company’s most valuable asset is its people. This acquisition is a superb fit for Element and we are very much looking forward to bringing Sherry’s numerous engineers, scientists and technicians on board to join forces with our own engaged experts.”

Noall added that “Sherry’s Nadcap accredited facilities have also been approved by aerospace primes including Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell, Bombardier and GE Aviation, which further adds to Element’s own prime approvals held across a wide range of laboratories. In addition, the company serves a large number of oil & gas customers through its materials testing, petrochemical and environmental, services. The addition of these clients to our existing portfolio significantly strengthens Element’s position within the U.S. oil & gas testing industry.”

Commenting on the transaction, Chris LaMothe, the chief executive officer of Sherry Laboratories, said, “We are delighted that we have been able to join forces with Element. This deal will enable Sherry to offer its customers an even broader range of testing services and capabilities, and we look forward to playing a critical role in the continued success of the Element Group.”

This latest deal by the firm follows a number of significant acquisitions in the last fifteen months, including MAR-TEST of Cincinnati, Ohio; Detroit Testing Laboratories of Warren, Michigan, and UK-based polymer engineering and testing specialists MERL.

In conclusion Noall adds, “We have had valuable integration experience with a number of high quality acquisitions as part of the Element’s continued growth strategy, so it will be very much ‘business as usual’ for everyone concerned going forward. This transaction further broadens the range of capabilities that Element offers its clients and puts our company at the heart of the materials testing industry in the U.S., marking the next stage in our continued drive to become the largest global materials testing services provider.”
