SMTCL-Americas (Los Angeles, CA) gave back to the community by donating and volunteering at the Los Angeles Mission Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless. The chief operations officer, Jerry McCarty, has served the homeless for 18 years and is a former board member of the mission.

This is the second year that the company has had the opportunity to donate money to the mission to support their efforts in feeding and providing for the homeless. “We are proud to support the Los Angeles Mission and the good work they do for the needy men, women, and children of Los Angeles,” McCarty explained.

Herb Smith, the president of the mission, said the donation from the company would help provide the homeless citizens of Los Angeles food, clothing, and blankets. “We are honored this Thanksgiving to once again partner with them to provide food and care to others,” Smith stated.

The Los Angeles Mission has been serving the homeless in the city for 75 years and is not funded through the city, state or federal funds and relies strictly on donations. Every year volunteers, celebrities, and the Los Angeles Mission team help to feed thousands of those less fortune a Thanksgiving meal. This year over 6,000 homeless citizens were able to enjoy a home cooked dinner, consisting of over 3,000 lb of turkey and 700 lb of mashed potatoes.

Some of the celebrity servers included George Lopez, Patricia Heaton, Diedre Hall, Kylie Jenner, and rapper Tyga. Celebrity volunteers were serving up the food in aprons and gloves alongside everyone else, and were happy to take photos and do what they could to put a smile on the faces of those in need.

Whether famous or not, all volunteers made the homeless men, women and children feel the warmth and kindness of what the holiday season is truly about. McCarty also plans to continue his volunteering for the mission in the following years to come.
