ASTM International (West Conshohocken, PA) Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys has presented the Gary M. Kralik Distinguished Service Award to consultant Michael Gold of Gold Metallurgical Services LLC (North Benton, OH).

The committee noted Gold’s outstanding service as a member since 1979, and his key contributions to the Subcommittee on Refined Nickel and Cobalt and Their Alloys (B02.07). Gold is also active on Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys. That committee has honored him with the A01 Award of Excellence and the Award of Merit, ASTM’s highest award for individual contributions to standards activities.

Gold specializes in materials applications for boilers and pressure vessels, including procurement, production, design limits, fabrication and failure analysis. He spent most of his professional career at the Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Division (Barberton, OH), where he served as a metallurgist, group leader, and manager of materials technology and standards. He retired in 2002 and has continued his work as a metallurgy consultant.

A life fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Gold is a longtime member of ASME’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Committee. He is also a life member of the American Society for Metals. Gold holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s in metallurgy from Yale University. He also completed graduate-level courses at Cornell University.
