Renishaw, Inc. (Hoffman Estates, IL) has announced a series of advancements for the senior U.S. management team to guide their continued growth in the North American market. Leo Somerville, the former company president, has been promoted to oversee the North American division in a newly created position to advance all aspects of their healthcare business. Replacing Somerville as their president is Howard Salt, the former business manager of encoder products. The company is also completing a new technology center to serve the automotive market and other industries, set to break ground in early 2017 in Michigan.

“The growth in size and complexity of the key North American market for products, services and new technologies requires a strategic refocus of the senior U.S. management team to address this positive situation,” explained Sir David McMurtry, the chairman and chief executive officer of Renishaw. “Congratulations to Leo and Howard on their very well earned promotions.”

Somerville will continue to assist the board in developing technical and commercial strategies in his new research and development role. A new senior management team has been created to support Salt in his new role as president. David Bozich, the former MT/Scanning business manager, was appointed the vice president of operations, with responsibilities including human resources, IT, quality, service center, warehouse, shipping and receiving, facilities, and compliance. Denis Zayia, the former national sales and marketing manager was appointed the vice president of sales and marketing and responsibilities include his existing product lines and services, as well as setting up regional technical and sales offices throughout the U.S. as the company continues to get closer to customers.

Their North American growth continues in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, MI, with a 20,070 sq ft technology and research center in Oakland Technology Park that will provide turnkey measuring solutions to automotive icons like Chrysler, Ford and GM, while also supporting the medical and aerospace industries.

The company will also soon complete its new 133,000 sq ft office and warehouse facility in West Dundee, IL, about 40 miles from Chicago. This includes the North American Solutions Center, part of their network of global solutions centers, which will open over the next year. These centers provide venues where the additive manufacturing adoption process can be accelerated. “We can give shops cost-effective, hands-on experience of metal additive manufacturing, combined with application engineering support to optimize their design and post-processing capabilities to ensure that it performs as it should,” added McMurtry. The two-story facility is the company’s new North American headquarters and includes space for product development, testing, warehousing and distribution.
