Hexagon Acquires External-Array Software
This deal further expands their metrology software systems for entry level CMMs.

Hexagon AB (Stockholm, Sweden) acquired External-Array Software (Beijing, China), a software development company that specializes in providing user-friendly and high functionality metrology software for coordinate measuring machine (CMM) manufacturers. Founded in 2005, External-Array joins the Manufacturing Intelligence Division.
With simplified programming modes, customization capabilities and strong compatibility, External-Array systems have established an international reputation and a large customer base in China. Their RationalDMIS CMM software features an intuitive interface and drag-and-drop programming designed to help trainee users quickly acquire the required operational skills and knowledge. With functions such as real-time graphical display, path simulation, collision detection and measuring planning, users can enhance measurement control and visibility. In addition, the software’s high compatibility enables support for different sensors, controllers and CMMs.
“This acquisition further enriches our metrology software systems, providing more software choices for entry level CMMs,” said Norbert Hanke, the president and chief executive officer of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. “The customization function of RationalDMIS software, in particular, offers users a system tailored to their operations, helping them to target their needs and objectives and drive productivity.” External-Array was fully consolidated as of August 1, 2018. This acquisition has no significant impact on Hexagon’s earnings.
