How Inexperienced Welders Do More in Light Fabrication

Intended for welders who need to do projects at home, take on auto body work or handle light fabrication, the Multimatic 220 AC/DC from Miller Electric delivers all-in-one multi-process capabilities for MIG, flux cored, DC TIG, DC stick and AC TIG welding. Welders can tackle more projects and more materials, from 24 ga to ¼ in thick aluminum.

Easy to set up and simple to use so that welders of all skill levels can get more done, the Millermatic 255 MIG welder and Multimatic 255 multi-process welder from Miller Electric Mfg. LLC (Appleton, WI) reduce downtime and increase productivity. “Outdated equipment may be holding welders back and can be frustrating for inexperienced welders,” says Chris Roehl, a product manager at Miller Electric. “It’s time to think simply and weld smarter with these two welding power sources.” Millermatic 255 and Multimatic 255 inverter welders each weigh only 84 lb, 50 percent less than the Millermatic 252 MIG welder. Because these machines are smaller than most others in their class, there is more room to weld – and weld efficiently. With optional EZ-Latch™ running gear, both welders are easy to move around the shop or in the field. They can also be quickly disconnected from the running gear, enabling portability and making it easier to work in confined spaces. This integrated running gear is available in single cylinder and dual cylinder models.

The simple user interface on both machines provides a large, easy-to-read 7 in color LCD screen and straightforward controls that cut setup and changeover time by 40 percent. Welding operators can choose the right parameters with ease with Auto-Set™ Elite technology that allows the operator to set the weld parameters by selecting wire and gas type, wire diameter, and material thickness. Changing tasks on these two machines is fast and easy with programmable memory settings that let the operator save and recall favorite weld settings. Auto-Line™ technology allows for any single-phase input voltage hookup (208V to 240V for the Millermatic 255, 208V to 575V for the Multimatic 255) with no manual linking, providing convenience in any job setting.

Capable of welding metals up to ½ in thick with an output rating of 230 amps and 25.5V at a 60 percent duty cycle, this welder is easy to use and delivers versatility for faster uptime and performance. “The Multimatic 255 eliminates the hassle of moving multiple heavy welding power sources, making it easier to move to the work,” adds Roehl.

Both machines offer pulsed MIG that is ideal for thin materials because it results in less warping and distortion. Pulsed MIG also minimizes spatter and eliminates the need to apply anti-spatter chemicals before welding or to grind off spatter afterward. Compatible push-pull MIG guns increase productivity by allowing the use of 12 in wire, reducing downtime from changing wire spools. The optional EZ-Select™ MIG gun lets welders change programs by tapping the trigger, cutting non-productive time from their workday so they don’t have to go back to the machine to adjust the settings. Operators can tackle all of their needs in the shop and in the field with these two welders.

Miller Electric also offers their Multimatic 220 AC/DC that delivers all-in-one multi-process capabilities for MIG, flux cored, DC TIG and DC stick welding, plus the addition of AC TIG capabilities. Welders can now tackle more projects and more materials, including AC/DC TIG from 24 ga to ¼ in thick aluminum. The Multimatic 220 AC/DC makes it easier than ever to switch between processes. QuickTechä technology automatically determines the correct polarity and switches to the right process when the welder hits the trigger or taps the foot control. This technology also allows a MIG gun and TIG torch to be connected at the same time. This welder also features two shielding gas connections so that both MIG and TIG gases can be attached simultaneously. For TIG welders who want to fine tune their parameters, the Multimatic 220 AC/DC offers adjustable AC balance and frequency and DC pulse. Or, operators can rely on Pro-Setä technology that offers pre-set controls designed by Miller weld engineers to eliminate the guesswork when setting weld parameters.

This machines delivers ultimate portability, weighing just 56 lb and featuring the exclusive Multi-Voltage Plug (MVP™) that allows users to weld in more places by simply choosing the plug that fits a 120V or 240V power receptacle and connecting it to the power cord. No tools are required. Ease-of-use is enhanced further through other innovative features: An angled wire drive uses an updated motor in an all-aluminum housing to support longer torch options and deliver smoother wire feeding for better welds. The Quick Select™ drive roll makes setup quick and easy by offering three grooves – two for different sized solid wire and a third for flux-cored wire. The Multimatic 220 AC/DC is intended for welders who need to do projects at home, take on auto body work or handle light fabrication.
