In metal fabrication, operators often have to calculate the air bend tonnage required to form a part on a press brake. Build-to-order machine tool manufacturer Cincinnati Inc. (CI) (Harrison, OH) has had a load calculator on its website for years. Consistent and impressive traffic prompted the company to develop the page into a free mobile app.

Available for iOS and Android, CI Load Calc is compatible with all makes and models of press brakes and press brake tooling. After the operator selects a material, thickness, bend length, and enters the vee die opening, the app automatically gives the inside bend radius and the minimum flange. After entering the four parameters, users have their formability factor and required tonnage, either in metric or imperial. CI Load Calc saves previous entries, and users can access that history at any time.

“We did a lot of research before launching into app development and found similar tools that are extremely clunky,” says CI Director of Marketing Communications Matt Garbarino. “Plus, they default to metric and don’t allow the user to easily select which units they prefer. We let you use either measurement system.

“The load calculator page on our website is one of our most-viewed pages. It’s simple, helpful, and manufacturer-independent. If you’re trying to buy a press brake and you need tonnage ideas, or if you’re looking at a job and seeing if your current equipment can handle it, that’s what the load calculator is for.”

The free app is available in the App Store and Google Play. To learn more about it, visit the store and download it or visit the CI website to use the browser-based version at https://www.e-ci.com/press-brake-tonnage-load-calculator.
